This event has been rescheduled to Tuesday 29th October at 6pm.
October 17, 2013
Dear Friend,
We’re delighted to welcome you back to Airfield as we now begin to re-open the estate. You’ll find a lot that’s familiar but also many new features providing a great base for enjoyable and stimulating recreation and education for you, your family and generations to come.
When we closed nearly two years ago, we expected to see you back here a little sooner but we hope you’ll feel it’s been worth the wait.
There are many stories to hear and tell about our benefactors, Letitia and Naomi Overend, and their family. You’ll find a wonderful interactive Heritage Experience in their family home to bring them back to life. We believe this will give you many hours of pleasure exploring and discovering their story and a wealth of social history spanning more than a century.
We’ve renewed our overall purpose - to inspire people to refresh their connection with food and the land that produces it. Reflecting this, we’ve developed a brand new Overends Café next to our new entrance on Overend Way (100 yards up from the LUAS station). This will be a showcase for food produced on the estate as well as by suppliers sharing our values. We’ve been busy creating a new Kitchen Garden and a new Farmyard and Dairy to house and care for our animals (including the famous Jersey herd). Our Ornamental Gardens have also been refurbished, we’ve upgraded our Education and Learning spaces and we’re currently tilling and reseeding the pastures in readiness for next spring. All this will enable us to expand and develop a wide range of courses and activities for a diversity of age groups and interests.
While most of this is now ready, we still have to give Mother Nature some time to complete her work! As a result, we’ll be re-opening Airfield on a phased basis starting with our café, which opened this week, then the house at the end of the month, and running through to Spring 2014.
As local residents, we would like to invite you to Airfield on Tuesday 29th October at 6pm so that we can welcome you back and show you the developments that have been made.
We hope you will be able to join us.
With best regards,
John Edmondson, Trustee, Airfield
